This also means that your daily applications would soon be running out of there support. It’s time to start looking at new systems, new operating systems and updated applications as well. – Ralph S Gould

The new Microsoft windows 7 operating system is going to be released at months end. Before you jump in take inventory of your applications, peripherial devices and all other electronic toys that you have and verify that what you have will work with it. In many cases if your on the verge of needing a new pc it may be time to upgrade some of those old applications you have. As always BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP before you jump in. Of course if you are unsure of what to do ask a consultant such as myself for some advice.

As with most long time users of windows based computers we all know the name mcafee, norton or symantec. Some of the first in the field of antivirus applications. Over the years their applications have made improvements but for the most part they have been bigger applications., more intrusive and more of a system resource hog. I’d like to turn your attention to one of the most beloved (among IT specialists) anti virus and anti spyware applications on the market;  Eset’s NOD32 software. www.eset.com. We have switched many of our clients away from McAfee and Symantec over the years to this great application. Simple to use, powerful and most importantly IT DOES NOT TAKE OVER your system. Google it, do your research and you will find this to hold true. Ask us today about taking back system resources. Speeding up boot times. Internet spedds and more. All by simplying going to a better application.

don’t jump on the band wagon. give it time. they’re not pushing the Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 out via automatic updates yet. it’s a manual download which usually means let’s put it out there and see what feedback we get from the real world. usually if there are significant problems those will come out right away but it will take a few weeks for all issues to make there way back and that’s usually when you’ll hear terms like “post hot fix ” or “service pack supplemental”. the one big bonus for the common user is that Microsoft Outlook performance is said to be improved as well as that annoying repair message i see many of my clients get when re opening outlook. – Ralph S Gould

Microsoft is now pushing out the upgrade for internet explorer 8 and yes for those whom do not review what is being installed your upgrading your browser and it may not work correctly for a number of reasons. old plug-ins or browser add-ons also need to be removed or updated. my suggestion would be to wait a while or go with my personal choice Mozilla’s Firefox Browser. once its released to the masses IE8 will need some time for all of the bugs to be worked out. in some cases it causes irreversible damages as it is so closes joined with the operating system. – Ralph S Gould

http://blogs.msdn.com/bcm/default.aspx – this is useful to get some good types and how to’s if you use the Microsoft Outlook Business Contact Manager.  As a program it was never meant to be used as most people use it or “hack” it to work. It’s a great idea that i was always suprised they never tackled. It would be competing with Act Contact Manager type apps. either way useful resource. – Ralph S Gould, the ids tech

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941 – some useful info here for installing Windows xp or re-installing windows xp. the most important thing you can do if you are reinstalling is making sure you backup everything. what is everything? browser favorites, all data files, pictures, and so forth. Be careful if your used to just opening files and saving them where the application defaults to because that may not be in an obvious place. i try to tell folks that if you are using a standalone system make sure everything is placed in “my documents” so you know where its at.  – Ralph S Gould
