“Microsoft – The company will officially end support Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Client on July 13, 2010, according to an official company blog post….

Microsoft is likely to continue providing major security updates for Windows XP and Windows 2000 after ending support, but won’t offer performance patches, service packs or other non-critical upgrades.” as reported by Informationweek - http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/operatingsystems/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=222000858&subSection=News

This also means that your daily applications would soon be running out of there support. It’s time to start looking at new systems, new operating systems and updated applications as well. – Ralph S Gould

Sometimes when you go to work on a system you get the “i don’t know” how it happened. Whether it’s because your embarrassed or prideful that doesn’t always help. In a recent call to fix an infected computer I cleaned out temporary internet files, temp files and then proceeded to remove limewire, online games and an entire slew of “i don’t knows”. In that process i was able to see many of the not so reputably sites that could have caused the spyware infection. Please note that if your dealing with seasoned professionals there isn’t much we haven’t seen. By saying “I went here” or “I installed this” it can save both me and you time and money. As the saying goes “stuff” happens. Yes, of course, there are cases where you really don’t know how the system got messed up. I was once given a great quote in regards to life on the net. “If you go to a bad neighboorhood bad things usually happen. That’s why it’s called a bad neighborhood.” Remember that the next time your surfing the net on the same computer you run a business from or do your online banking. I always recommend that you should have a machine you don’t care about to do those things on or stop going to the bad neighborhood. – Ralph S Gould

There are thousands of “shrink-wrap” software solutions on the market but sometimes you just can’t find a “shrink-wrap” application that satisfies your needs. Whether its functionality, speed, features, ease of use, whatever.  At this point, it’s time to consider custom development so that you get exactly what you need.

Custom development can be more expensive than “shrink-wrap” solutions, but if they deliver what you need then it might very well be to your advantage. A custom application need not be an enormous development effort to solve all the ills of the world. It might be a minor database, a series of spreadsheets,  an amalgam of outlook forms, or a custom addition to an existing “shrink-wrap” solution, to solve a particular problem.

Look at where your staff spends a great deal of their time or the things that you hear complaints about all the time. These are generally good candidates for technology solutions.

You always need a competitive advantage and it may be that your IT applications’ ability to respond with the right information, provide better, faster Customer service may just make the difference. Maybe it’s not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

We develop custom applications for all types of clients, in:

  • Access, Word & Excel
  • SQL Server
  • Visual Basic (VB,VBA,VBS)
  • Outlook Forms
  • FrontPage (HTML, VBScript)
  • Custom Formatting:
    News Letters
    Phone-book style directories

Many people think that just because they have spy-ware applications and anti-virus applications that they are are completely secure with nothing to worry about. What happens when you get the random pop-up window from a website and you click on the “close” button they have provided you with. When clicking on that button you have given their script permission to write to your computer. Now the ad-aware or spy-ware has been added to your computer. When in doubt close them all out. That’s right. close down all browsers via windows task manager or by right clicking in the toolbar area and selecting close. clear out browser caches regularly. remove temp files regularly. and if you don’t know the website don’t go to it. just because the search came up in google doesn’t mean its automatically safe. Here @ The IDS Tech; serving the greater Monmouth, Ocean Counties of NJ and beyond, we can work with you to show you how these things are done as well as get you setup on a routine schedule to ensure that your systems are safe and secure. As well as give you “best practices” while using your system. If you do on-line banking and paying bills or even purchasing products make sure your safe and secure. This is not only true of your business systems but your home systems too. – Thanks – Ralph S Gould

http://www.weseed.com/ – a rather interesting website that allowws you to trade and make purchases with fake money yet real stocks. great concept for real world training at no risk. i will search out more of these types of sites as i think these types of sites can really contribute to educational needs

don’t jump on the band wagon. give it time. they’re not pushing the Microsoft Office 2007 SP2 out via automatic updates yet. it’s a manual download which usually means let’s put it out there and see what feedback we get from the real world. usually if there are significant problems those will come out right away but it will take a few weeks for all issues to make there way back and that’s usually when you’ll hear terms like “post hot fix ” or “service pack supplemental”. the one big bonus for the common user is that Microsoft Outlook performance is said to be improved as well as that annoying repair message i see many of my clients get when re opening outlook. – Ralph S Gould
